Frazier Simplex Junior Shooters at CMP Regionals March 27-28

Welcome to the newest members of the Frazier Simplex Junior Rifle Traveling Team, Haley, Becca & Zach. All three of them made their first trip to Camp Perry north campus this past weekend and put up a great showing. Haley and Becca are very new to 3P Air Rifle shooting, but you would never know that with their performance this weekend. Haley posted a perfect 200 in prone on her first day and first leg of her competition ending with a 578 for the day. Becca posted a 575 and a 570 to help her team place 9th overall for the weekend. Rounding out this team was Luke and Thomas.

Zachary's first day of competition proved to be a great one when he posted the team high score on Friday of 580. Zach's aggregate score over two days of 1146 66x helped his team reach 7th overall for the weekend. Rounding out this team was John Paul, Chris and Cassidy.

Our youngest member of our team, Rosebud, is performing very well and shooting better with each match. This weekend she posted a 558 and a 560. Keep up the great work Rosebud.

Congratulations to all of the competitors and we hope to have scored high enough to get invited to the National Championship in Anniston, AL in June.

Frazier Simplex Alumni and TCU Horned Frog Named to list of All Americans

FORT WORTH - The National Rifle Association has named Hannah Black and Sally Li second-team All-Americans for both air rifle and smallbore, while Ariana Grabowski earned Honorable Mention accolades in smallbore for the 2014-15 season.

Black and Grabowski become the 20th and 21st shooters in school history to earn such honors. Black and Li also earned second-team honors in both air rifle and smallbore to become the eighth Horned Frogs to accomplish both feats in a season. Li was the seventh when she achieved the same honors in 2014. Black and Li ended the year tied for the team lead in air rifle (591), smallbore (580) and aggregate totals (1,171).

Black, a junior from Richmond, Va., shot a 590 or better in 11 or 15 matches on the year in air rifle, with a personal-best 596 coming in the NCAA Qualifier at Air Force on Feb. 21. A personal-best 585-point outing against Jacksonville State and Murray State on Oct. 25 as well as a pair of 584-point performances helped her 580-point smallbore average.

As a freshman on TCU's national championship squad in 2012-13, she competed in the NCAA Championships as an individual.

Grabowski finished third on the squad in smallbore average (578), and her 587-point showing against Ohio State on Nov. 16 was the highest by a Horned Frog since 2012 London Olympian Sarah Scherer fired a 588 at the 2013 NCAA Championships.

The freshman from Beaver, Pa., extended TCU's streak to three years of having a freshman earn All-American honors, following Li's 2014 season and Megan Lee in 2013.

Li's best performance of the year came on Feb. 14. The sophomore from Singapore shot a 599 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore at UTEP, giving her a personal-best in air rifle and aggregate. That match enabled her to fire an average of 595 over her final four outings, the last of which being a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

The trio of All-Americans mark the most the Horned Frogs have had since 2012-13, when Scherer, Sarah Beard, Megan Lee and Caitlin Morrissey held such accolades.

The Horned Frogs finished third at the NCAA Championships over the weekend.

Civilian Marksmanship Program’s Regional Competition.

A group of steel-city kids visited Camp Perry with the hope of capturing a regional championship in air rifle shooting.

The competition will be stiff over the weekend at the Civilian Marksmanship Program as hundreds of shooters vie for a shot to reach the national competition.

Hailing from the greater Pittsburgh area, Joe Grabowski and his team of nine sharp-shooters came to Camp Perry with one goal in mind: to win a national championship like they did in 2013. "This is our third year shooting. Last year we came up short," he said.

With a laser-focus, the team practices for hours to perfect their craft. Grabowski said in order to compete, team members need to practice two to three times each week.

On Thursday, practice was inside the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center. Grabowski said the Camp Perry facility is one of the biggest shooting centers in the country.

He said practice the day before a weekend competition is integral to getting familiar with the range.

Luke Knollinger, a shooter for team Frazier Simplex in Pennsylvania, aims for a target during practice
at the CMP Regional Championship at Camp Perry.

"It's extremely important for first-time shooters," he said about practicing in the same facility as the competition. "Practice gets that nervousness out."

A veteran shooter, Christopher Thomas, 18, uses his practice time to work on his technique. "I try to fix my position," he said while he shoots from various target heights.

John Paul Grabowski, 17, said the hour practice at the shooting range allows him to try new things and make sure he not varying from his routine. "I work on my natural aim and try to keep everything the same," he said."

First year shooter Rebecca Spencer used practice time to get used to the large space at the shooting range. She practiced different target heights to prepare for competition.
