FORT WORTH - The National Rifle Association has named Hannah Black and Sally Li second-team All-Americans for both air rifle and smallbore, while Ariana Grabowski earned Honorable Mention accolades in smallbore for the 2014-15 season.
Black and Grabowski become the 20th and 21st shooters in school
history to earn such honors. Black and Li also earned second-team honors
in both air rifle and smallbore to become the eighth Horned Frogs to
accomplish both feats in a season. Li was the seventh when she achieved
the same honors in 2014. Black and Li ended the year tied for the team lead in air rifle (591), smallbore (580) and aggregate totals (1,171).
Black, a junior from Richmond, Va., shot a 590 or better in 11 or
15 matches on the year in air rifle, with a personal-best 596 coming in
the NCAA Qualifier at Air Force on Feb. 21. A personal-best 585-point
outing against Jacksonville State and Murray State on Oct. 25 as well as
a pair of 584-point performances helped her 580-point smallbore
average.
As a freshman on TCU's national championship squad in 2012-13, she competed in the NCAA Championships as an individual.
Grabowski finished third on the squad in smallbore average (578),
and her 587-point showing against Ohio State on Nov. 16 was the highest
by a Horned Frog since 2012 London Olympian Sarah Scherer fired a 588 at the 2013 NCAA Championships.
The freshman from Beaver, Pa., extended TCU's streak to three
years of having a freshman earn All-American honors, following Li's 2014
season and Megan Lee in 2013.
Li's best performance of the year came on Feb. 14. The sophomore
from Singapore shot a 599 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore at UTEP,
giving her a personal-best in air rifle and aggregate. That match
enabled her to fire an average of 595 over her final four outings, the
last of which being a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
The trio of All-Americans mark the most the Horned Frogs have had since 2012-13, when Scherer, Sarah Beard, Megan Lee and Caitlin Morrissey held such accolades.
The Horned Frogs finished third at the NCAA Championships over the weekend.
