Frazier Simplex Jr Rifle Team places 2nd in Gary Anderson Invitational

December 7, 2013 - Eight Frazier Simplex juniors participated in the annual Gary Anderson Invitational at the CMP North facility at Camp Perry. One of our newest members, Matthew Lovre finished 7th overall with a score of 586 - 35x's. Other competitors rounding out the X Factor team this weekend were, Ariana Grabowski (580 - 35x), Morgan Duerr (579 - 35x) and Cassidy Fairman (576 - 28x) - for a total aggregate score of 2321 - 133 x's. The first place team had a total aggregate score of 2330 - 154 x's.

Frazier Simplex Alumni join up with current team at the Buckeye Open Match

Emma Uchida met up with four of Frazier Simplex rifle team during the 1st annual Dr. John C. Fellingham Buckeye Open at The Ohio State University on November 17, 2013. It sure was great to meet up with one of our alumni during the match. Kiboh Uchida competed the week before in this match and missed his sister. Team Coach, Tom Bennedict also competed in this match in the "open class."

Little about the Buckeye Open:
Over 135 collegiate, junior and open shooters competed in the Buckeye Open over the past two weekends. The event was held at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Converse Hall and featured competition on Ohio State’s electronic target systems. Collegiate teams from Murray State, Columbus State, Army and Morehead State competed with Ohio State alongside junior and open competitors from around the region.

Tommy, Ariana and Chris spent the day before at the CMP North Range at Camp Perry shooting in the monthly Air Rifle matches where Ariana took second place overall in the International (all standing) Air Rifle competition.

John Paul Grabowski shot in the 3P match at the CMP North Range in the Sporter Class on Saturday. He fired an excellent score for his very first match and placed 13 out of 35 competitors.

Team X Factor takes the Gold Medal at the annual Dixie Double

Out of 54 competitors, Ariana finished 4th in the individual junior division, 18th overall, and 1st overall team with SPC Erin Lorenzen (as Team X Factor).

The Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), USA Olympic Developmental, World Cup competitors and junior shooters from all over the US came to Anniston, Alabama during the weekend of November 9 & 10, to compete in the 4th Annual Anniston Marksmanship Center Dixie Double. This match offered 60-shot international air rifle standing and 60-shot air pistol events for junior and open men and women. USA Shooting sanctioned this match as a PSA/PSI match and as a PTO. The match was a two-day event where competitors fired one 60-shot event on each of the two days.

CMP National 3P Postal Championship

Sporter or Precision Air Rifles ONLY
Course of Fire: 3x10 (1st phase)

Phase 1:  Postal Competition
CMP sponsors a nationwide three position air rifle postal (mail-in or correspondence) competition for all junior programs including all JROTC, 4H, Boy Scouts, and junior clubs. The top shooters in these matches will qualify for the CMP Regional Championships. This is a 3x10 match and is open for both sporter and precision competitors. This phase will be shot here at Frazier Simplex in December or January. (All targets must be sent in by February 1, 2014)

Phase 2:  Regional Championships
The CMP Regional Championships will occur in three different locations around the country.  Athletes qualifying for this match Phase 1 above.  This match will consist of a practice, check-in and equipment control day followed by two days of 3x20 matches.  A final will be held on the last day for the top 8 individuals in sporter and precision.  This match is scheduled for: March 27-29, 2014 at Camp Perry, Port Clinton, OH.

Phase 3:  National Championships
The CMP National Championship is the final event in the CMP three-position air rifle championships. Qualification for this match comes from the CMP Regional Championships as well as the State 3PAR Junior Olympic matches. This match will consist of one 3x20 with finals for the top eight shooters in sporter and precision. This match is scheduled for: June 25 (sporter) & 28 (precision), 2014 at Camp Perry, Port Clinton, OH.

Fee: There is a $5 entry fee for the first phase of this tournament.

American Legion 24th Junior 3-Position Air Rifle Tournament

Sporter or Precision Air Rifles ONLY
Course of Fire: 3 x 20

The Individual Tournament has three phases of competition: 1) Preliminary Round – State/Regional Championships; 2) Qualification Round; and 3) National Championships

The Team Tournament has two phases of competition:  1) Preliminary Round – State/Regional Championships; 2) National Championships.

Both of the first two stages are paper (postal) matches and will be shot here at Frazier Simplex. The first match will be shot in December or January (date to be decided by match director). If you qualify for the second match, it will be shot sometime in mid to late March, 2014.

The top 15 shooters in the country (both Sporter and Precision) will be invited (with most of your expenses paid) to shoot in the National Championship Tournament, July 29 – August 2, 2014, USA Shooting Facility, United States Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, CO.

Age Limits: Competitors who have reached their 18th birthday or are a graduate of high school, class of 2014, and those younger are eligible to participate.

Fee: There is a $10 entry fee for the first phase of this tournament.
Please submit a check, payable to the Frazier Simplex Jr. Rifle Club for $10.

Targets will be scored by representatives of the Frazier Simplex Rifle Club.

All challenges and protests will be decided by a jury selected by the match director.

There will be a $2.00 challenge fee imposed for each target card challenged. No fee will be charged if the challenge is to verify addition of the score.

The Chief Statistical Officer will review the challenge for score. Challenged shot holes will go directly to the jury to settle the challenge, with no appeal. Shots not plugged can be plugged. Previously plugged shots will not be re-plugged. The score could go up or down on a challenge.

Coaching is prohibited.

Only competitors and Range Officer will be permitted in range during event due to limited space on range. Everyone else must remain in ready room.

This is a 120 shot NRA registered national match. Junior and senior competitors are welcome. The match will consist of 40 shots in each of the prone, kneeling and standing positions. The match will be approximately 3 hours in length. PLEASE! make every effort to attend if you sign up for the match. There will be teams selected for the match. The individual score will be used for the team score. Bring your NRA Classification Card. If you do not have one make a list of your 3-P scores and bring the list with you. The NRA/USA 50 target will be used.

Team Match: $14.00 per Team: $3.50 per team member*

In addition to the awards provided by the NRA, which are noted in the program, Frazier-Simplex will pay back 60% of the registration fees ( minus the NRA Fees) to the competitors distributed over Matches 1-4.

Brent Morgan now shooting for the University of Akron Zips

Congratulations to Brent Morgan who is now shooting for the Akron Zips.
Brent joined Frazier Simplex Rifle Team in 2009 and is taking along a great track record as he enters his freshman year at Akron. He was the captain of the Avella High School Rifle Team for three years, placed fourth overall individually in the Pennsylvania in the PIAA for 2013, shot with Frazier Simplex in the Pittsburgh and Suburban League Rifle Team for three years, member of the Pennsylvania 4-H National Rifle Team for smallbore (2010) and air rifle (2011), placing 8th individually nationally in smallbore with 4-H National Rifle Team.

More recently, Brent was part of the first-place Frazier Simplex Junior Rifle team at the 2013 Palmyra Invitational, shot a personal best of 384 in the 2012 NRA National Junior International Air Sectionals, first place at the CMP 3P air rifle match in June 2012 with a score of 285, and placed third at the 2012 Mountaineer Open with a smallbore score of 561.

Junior Members attend Camp Perry this Summer and Win Big!

This past summer, six juniors marksmen, participated in the 2013 NRA National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. Three of them just came back from a National Air Rifle match in Alabama on Monday to start this competition on Wednesday.

In the 3-Position Metallic Sight Team Match, Nicolle Thiry and Nicholle Benedict (both of Frazier-Simplex) with Jack Anderson (Oil City) and Emilee Miller placed 3rd in the overall match with a combined score of 2332 and 104x's. In this same competition, Christopher Thomas and Kiboh Uchida (both of Frazier-Simplex) took a 1st place in the Intermediate Junior category with a 2296 and 89x's.

In the 3-Position Any Sight Team Match, Nicolle Thiry, Nicholle Benedict, Jack Anderson and Emilee Miller took 1st place in the Junior Team division with a combined score of 2318 and 82x's. In this same competition, Christopher Thomas and Kiboh Uchida took a 1st place in the Intermediate Junior category with a 2275 and 64x's.

During the National Matches, competitors also had the opportunity to shoot in some air pistol and rifle competitions. Thomas Welch (Frazier-Simplex) won $30.80 in the 30 Shot Air Rifle Center Shot Match (he was off the big money of $38 by the thickness of a hair). Ariana Grabowski (Frazier-Simplex) took 1st place overall women's division in the Air Rifle 60 Shot International Match (all standing) with a score of 584 and 36x's.

Congratulations to all the competitors on an outstanding summer of shooting. Next year, the small-bore competitions are scheduled to be in Indiana instead of Camp Perry.

Nicholle Thiry now shooting for Ole Miss

With sad yet joyful hearts, we are thankful and proud of Nicolle Thiry who is now off to Ole Miss to shoot this fall. We are very thankful for Nicolle's vital role in helping the Frazier Simplex Precision Jr. Rifle Team in winning the Civilian Marksmanship Program's Regional and National 3P Air Rifle Championships this year.

For the past two and half years, Nicolle has been shooting at the Frazier Simplex Rifle Club where she has won the high junior for the past two years in a row as well as the R.K. Moore (100 shot standing) award for the past two years. She is very thankful to everyone at Frazier for the many opportunities to be involved with such a high caliber group of athletes and will be keeping a close watch on all of her ole teammates from last year.

Nicolle is now studying business at Ole Miss and shooting for their NCAA Shooting Team. Keep up the great shooting and we are looking forward to seeing you at future competitions. PA Shooters pull in 2nd, 4th & 8th place at the American Legion National Air Rifle Match

Three of Pennsylvania's best junior precision air rifle shooters competed in the 2013 American Legion National finals at the Olympic Training Center on August 8, 9 & 10, 2013. The competition pulled the best air rifle shooters from all 50 states. In fact, they are in the 1 percent of the top junior precision air rifle shooters to qualify this year through the American Legion postal matches.

The Frazier-Simplex 4-H Rifle Team won first place on August 7, 2013 at the Penn State Achievement Days

Mackenzie Robinson, Chris Thomas, Tom Welch, and Morgan Duerr, won individual senior division honors with a 294, qualified for the Pennsylvania State Team and will participate in the Nebraska 4-H Nationals in 2014.

Taylor Tennant qualified for the PA State Air Rifle Team. The air rifle team placed second in the senior division.

Pictured below, Sylvia Dreistadt qualified for the third time in as many years for membership on a State National Team. In 2014 she will be on the Air Pistol Team. This is her third State Championship, rifle and air rifle being her two other gold medals.

Frazier Simplex well represented at the 2013 National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational on June 23-28

Fifteen 4-H members represented Pennsylvania at the 2013 4-H National Shooting Sports Invitational during the week of June 23-28 in Grand Island Nebraska. The Pennsylvania Teams participating in the event were .22 Rifle, Air-Rifle, Shotgun and Compound Archery.

The .22 Smallbore Team composed of Nicolle Thiry and Taylor Tennant from Frazier-Simplex 4-H, Washington County, and Sarah Sroka and Hannah Rohrer from Somerset County 4-H placed second and was awarded the Silver Medal in the NRA 3-Position Match with a score of 1549.

A team from Louisiana won first place with a score of 1552. All four members of Team Pennsylvania placed in the top 10 on an individual level. Nicolle Thiry placed 3rd, Sarah Sroka placed 7th, Taylor Tennant placed 8th and Hannah Rohrer placed 9th.

The Pennsylvania Air-Rifle Team composed of Morgan Duerr, Sylvia Dreistadt and Kaylee Hobgood from Frazier-Simplex, Washington County, placed 4th in the 40 Shot Standing Match. Morgan Duerr placed 4th in the individual standings.

In Compound Archery, Brendon Smith of Cambria County placed 8th in the individual archery standings.

The National Competition will be held in Grand Island, Nebraska for the next three years. 15 members from the Frazier-Simplex 4-H Rifle Club will participate in the Penn State 4-H Achievement Days on August 7, 2013, in an attempt to qualify for a place on a Pennsylvania Team in the 2014 National Invitational.

1st Place in the CMP 3PAR Championship - July 13, 2013

On the final day of the 3 day competition, the all girl team from Frazier Simplex pulled off a huge victory and won the prize they were seeking - 2013 CMP 3PAR National Champions! Shooting against 37 teams, the competition was tight. The 4 person aggregate score of 2339 with 162 X's, was the highest aggregate team score of the 3 day competition.

Congratulations to the 2nd place team pictured above from Oil City, who nipped on our heels through-out the whole competition.

Ariana, again, won a 4th place overall individual title for this competition. Her final score of 100.3 put her in a close run for 4th place. She also won a 1st place medal for prone with a 200 with 20X's. Congratulations on some awesome shooting.

3rd Place in the USA Shooting 3PAR Championship - July 12, 2013

The all girl team from Frazier Simplex again met the challenge of a 2nd day of competition and placed 3rd overall among 37 teams in the event. Their 4 person aggregate score of 2322 with 139 X's, was only 8 points below the first place team.

Ariana also won a 4th place overall individual title for this competition. Her final score of 100.9 was 0.1 point below 3rd place. Congratulations on some great shooting.

Regional Champions 2013

The Frazier Simplex Jr Rifle Team brought their A game to the Camp Perry CMP Regional Match on May 17 & 18, 2013. Going into the final day, they were 5 points down and holding second place. A very strong finish by all of the shooters squeezed them by the Oil City Jr Rifle Team by 3 point.
The team walked away with a nice check from the CMP as well as a nice endowment established by Midway USA. Thanks to the CMP and Midway for making this a huge success.
